Analytical Chemist at the Total Defence Research Institute (FOI)

The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civil defense. The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive substances), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analysis. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capability.

About the Position

As an analytical chemist with us, you will work independently and in teams with laboratory tasks related to the analysis of primarily organic chemical substances, but analysis of bio-organic substances or complexes may also occur. You will prepare samples, analyze, and produce data for our research and assignment operations. You are well acquainted with basic analytical techniques such as LC/MS and GC/MS. Parts of the operations are accredited according to ISO 17025, which imposes high demands regarding quality assurance, traceability, and documentation.

About the Unit

The Department of CBRN Protection and Security has a broad interdisciplinary competence in areas such as analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, and toxicology, with a focus on CBRN issues.

The chemical analysis laboratory is part of a network for the verification of chemical weapons, where international assignments occur. Another area where we can support clients is, for example, the Armed Forces and civil authorities in assessments of threats and risks associated with the presence of hazardous substances in, for example, the environment and drinking water.

Do You Have the Competence Profile We Need?

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A Master's degree in chemistry or equivalent, such as an engineering degree that we assess as equivalent for the position
  • Documented knowledge and current experience of LC/MS and/or GC/MS
  • Current knowledge and experience in laboratory chemical analysis work through work experience or studies within the last 3 years
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form

You plan and prioritize effectively, drive your processes forward, and adapt when conditions change. At the same time, you have good collaboration skills, are attentive, and share knowledge with others. You are secure and stable and ensure that the work is of high quality with precision.
